Phase 2 of the project in South Haven will start in the Spring of 2025.
The Contractor plans to start the week of April 14, setting up traffic control, clearing some trees along the project area, and reclaiming the roadway. Temporary water lines will be installed during the week of April 18, followed by installing underground pipe casing using directional drilling. Pipe work is scheduled to begin on the north side of Highway 55 during the week of April 28, followed by pipe work on the south side of Highway 55 and street work in May.
All underground work is complete, the first lift of pavement is on. Remaining work is final lift of tar and restoration. Half of the watermain is in and tar is in. Lincoln Avenue needs watermain and tar replacement.
All the underground utility installations for this year are complete. Contractors will continue paving and covering gravel surfaces the week of the Nov. 4th or shortly after on streets that were scheduled to be paved. Clean-up of the yards and seeding and mulching will take place.
South Haven’s old water tower is coming down on 11/05/2024. Seeding and mulching on the water tower site will follow.
The water treatment plant is complete and the old well house on the southwest side of town will be removed.
Construction will begin in the spring again to finish up the utility work on Lincoln Avenue, place the final lift of pavement, and seed the yards and clean up from the project.
Utility installation will continue on Fairhaven, Church and Grant Street. The process of rebuilding the roadbed to gravel on all the streets will start the week of October 7th.
The contractor has started in South Haven. Reclaiming and removals have been completed. The watermain is installed on Oak Avenue and Church Street and they will come back and install service lines to houses. The contractor is also working on the Watermain from CSAH 2 to Oak Ave.
The Contractor plans on starting the week of August 19. Watch for updates later this month.
The South Haven project is progressing well, with several key phases already completed. Construction is set to be finalized in Phase 2 of South Haven’s infrastructure improvements, which consists of replacements of watermains and repaving affected roadways. Work for this phase started last summer and will be completed this spring.
The following is a summary of the preliminary project schedule:
The attached map shows areas that will be directly affected by construction activities. During construction, expect to see heavy truck and equipment traffic, closed streets, and limited street parking at times. Turf restoration of disturbed areas, such as lawn grading and seeding, will also occur. Your efforts in helping water newly seeded areas will promote the growth of a thicker, healthier lawn faster. Here are some helpful tips you can follow for growing a healthy lawn.
Watermain replacement will require temporary watermains to provide water access throughout construction as watermains are taken offline for replacement. During key connections, residents may experience brief water service interruptions and temporary changes in water quality as pipe is disturbed by construction.
Securing grant funding for infrastructure projects takes time and persistence, but it is the only way to avoid drastic increases in user rates. To date, South Haven has received over $8.8 million in grant funding for infrastructure improvements! We continue to work with your City Council to minimize rate increases by securing additional grant funding for the final phase of this project.
The City of South Haven, Contractors, and Bollig Engineering ask that everyone stay clear of construction zones, obey construction signs, and be safe and cautious around construction equipment. If you have questions or concerns about the project, please contact Kayla Fruth, on-site Resident Project Representative (RPR), or Paul Jurek, Senior Engineer at 320-235-2555.
