Graduate Civil Engineer – Job Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in delivering civil engineering services across municipal projects, including design, plans, specifications, reports, permits, schedules and estimates
- Support design and construction meetings for municipal, land development and aviation projects, including client and sub-consultant design meetings, pre-bid meetings and coordination with contractors and equipment suppliers
- Prepare and maintain project documentation under the guidance of a project manager to ensure work is completed within scope, on time and within budget
- Conduct periodic onsite observation during construction to document progress and assist in resolving technical issues under senior engineer oversight
- Develop client communication skills by supporting project updates and assisting with client correspondence
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices as part of ongoing professional development
Graduate Civil Engineer – Qualifications Required
- 0-3 years of civil engineering experience, including internships and co-ops
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution, with intent to pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in South Dakota, Iowa or Minnesota
- Works under the direction of a licensed Professional Engineer
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a desire to develop client-facing and leadership abilities over time
- Eagerness to learn in a hands-on, team-oriented environment
- Self-motivated and coachable, with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt quickly
- Foundational proficiency in civil engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD and GeoSTORM, as well as Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
- Interest in or passion for rural infrastructure and small-community challenges
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning with an entrepreneurial can-do approach
