Graduate Aviation Civil Engineer — Job Responsibilities
- Become an integral part of the Bollig Aviation Team, helping to progress airport engineering projects from planning through completion
- Collaborate with and support senior aviation engineers in the planning, design and execution of airfield projects, including runway design, taxiway design, apron layout and hangar construction
- Provide support to meet the requirements of appropriate agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and MnDOT Aeronautics
- Assist with initial airport project scoping and field data collection to identify client needs and define project parameters
- Assist with report preparation and drawings for Airport Master Plans, Airport Layout Plans (ALPs) and aviation construction projects under senior engineer oversight
- Support internal and external Bollig project stakeholders on aviation and municipal projects as needed
- Assist Bollig staff with building and maintaining client relationships with airport sponsors and local municipalities
- Assist with municipal civil engineering projects on occasion
- Maintain and obtain required certifications and attend FAA and industry training as necessary
Graduate Aviation Civil Engineer — Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution, with strong academic performance, and intent to pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in South Dakota, North Dakota or Minnesota
- 0–3 years of civil engineering experience, including internships and co-ops; prior aviation or airfield engineering exposure a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a desire to develop client-facing and leadership abilities over time
- Eagerness to learn FAA and State Aeronautics design standards, airport layout planning and airfield construction processes in a hands-on environment
- Self-motivated and coachable, with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt quickly
- Foundational proficiency in civil engineering design software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D, as well as Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams
- Flexibility to travel to airport project sites with occasional overnight stays as required
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning with an entrepreneurial can-do approach
- Candidates with civil or municipal engineering backgrounds and a genuine eagerness to develop expertise in aviation project delivery are encouraged to apply
- Works under the direction of a licensed Professional Engineer
