Infrastructure Improvement Project
The infrastructure improvements project is in its final stages and is substantially complete. All work has been completed except for some punch list items around town. Crews will be completing punch list items this fall, most being grass seeding repairs. Disruptions to water or sewer services are not expected. All water meters have been installed throughout town as well. Thank you for your patience throughout this project.
5/10/24 – The contractor for the Hanley Falls Infrastructure Improvements Project is wrapping up around town. Most areas have been restored and seeded. The final wear course paving is complete. There is some miscellaneous restoration work and project work remaining, including inside the water treatment plant and at the wastewater treatment facility. The disturbance around town will be minimal. Grass is starting to grow in areas that were seeded last fall. Here are some tips to help homeowners with newly seeded lawns.
11/29/23- Work is coming to an end for 2023. There will be a pause in the Infrastructure Project work for the winter, to resume in the spring. All paving and utility work has been completed for 2023. Remaining work in the spring includes the final lift of pavement on the city streets, a water meter pit at the campground, work on the sanitary control structure at the wastewater treatment facility, and some miscellaneous restoration items. Water meters will be replaced in homes starting this winter as part of the Water Meter Project.
11/2/03 – Paving has started in the downtown area. The Contractor is planning to pour most of the remaining concrete early next week with more paving to follow. All water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer pipe has been installed. Street rebuilding operations will continue where pipe was installed to prepare for concrete and paving.
10/5/23 – Pipe installation is progressing well and is expected to be on track to be completed by the end of the 2023 construction season. The sewer pipe replacement that has been constructed to date has improved the performance of the sanitary sewer, with sewer flows not peaking as much during rain storms as they did before the project. Additional concrete work and paving is expected before the end of October.
The MN Senate Capital Investment Committee, along with Representative Swedzinski and Senator Dahms visited this week to review the project and to better understand remaining infrastructure needs for the City. The Senators were interested and engaged with looking at samples of the actual old pipes being replaced during the project. Mayor Hagen, council members, and Hanley Falls City staff did great work advocating for the needs of the City.
8/2/23 – The underground pipe has been installed in the downtown area along 3rd St. N and 3rd Ave. W. Concrete curb and gutter and most sidewalk has also been installed in the downtown area. Class 5 has been installed for the road base and rough graded. Please watch for uneven surfaces as there may be a step down from the curb in various locations. Watermain and sewer work is progressing on Railroad St. and Alley 2 behind City Hall. Road rebuilding will follow pipe work on Railroad St. when pipe work is complete. Once Railroad St. and Alley 2 work is complete, crews will work south down Alley 3 (East of 1st Ave E. or CSAH 38) to 2nd St. S.
7/25/23- A water shutdown is scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, 7/26/23 for part of Hanley Falls in order to install 2 new gate valves. The area encompassed on the map in red shows the properties that will be shut down for part of the day. Voss plans to shut off water in the morning and turn back on as soon as work is completed. Watch for a door hangar on effected properties with more detailed information including shut off time and estimated duration.
7/13/23 – Two of the main storm sewer outlets for the City have been installed. The downtown area, which had a lot of pipe to install, is complete, with road rebuilding to begin this week. The road will be gravel for some time, and bituminous pavement, concrete curb and gutter, and sidewalk will be installed later this year. Once this area reopens to vehicle traffic, be careful for uneven surfaces and missing portions of sidewalk and curb and gutter while traveling on foot. Upcoming work will be concentrated more in residential areas, so expect increased need to detour and stay clear of construction areas and to park temporarily in alternate locations. The work in residential areas generally has less pipe to install than the downtown area, so it may seem like the construction crew is moving through the project area more quickly than for the work completed so far. If you will need handicapped access to your property or other special accommodations, please contact the project RPR.
The underground crew will be installing watermain along 3rd St. N. through the 2nd Ave W. intersection either Friday June 16 or Monday June 19. Please watch for signs to take the alternate route. The work is expected to take around 1 day, and then access on 2nd Ave W. will be restored.
6/7/23 – Access to the post office in Hanley Falls has been opened back up on 2nd Ave. W from county road 38 from the south. This access will be available for a week or so until the contractor comes back through to install watermain and storm sewer. An update will be given when the temporary access around the back of fire station will be used again.
6/1/23 – Either tomorrow or early next week (weather depending) the new post office temporary access will be behind the fire station west between the post office and water tower, and into post office parking lot from the west.
Sanitary collection work has started northwest of the fire hall near the lift station and crews are working their way west into the downtown area. Watermain work is expected to follow in the downtown area along RR Street and 3rd Street N to 3rd Avenue W just south of 2nd Street N. Most of the trees to be removed as part of the project have been cut down and disposed of.
The City of Hanley Falls, Contractors, and Bollig Engineering ask that everyone stay clear of construction zones, obey construction signs, and be safe and cautious around construction equipment. The Contractor is responsible for safety. If you have questions or concerns about this project, please contact Brady Panitzke, Resident Project Representative.
