The City of Brooten, MN needed an arrival/departure facility to represent the city well, attract users, and support state licensing requirements. Bollig Engineering planned a new building, funded by a MnDOT grant and a local donor, to meet those needs with distinctive design. Additionally, Bollig designed and constructed improved runway lighting and signage and a new aviation fuel system for 100LL fuel.
Aviation Fuel System
Brooten looked to add value and revenue to their airport with the installation of a new 5,000-gallon 100LL fuel system to their airport. With their state-of-the-art self-serve fuel system, the airport provides a needed service to pilots and enhances safety and comfort for the flying public. As described in the MN Flyer May 2022 issue, the fuel system runs remotely through the city’s computer system with a credit card reader, allowing the city to track fuel sales and gallons left in the tank.
City & Airport Inter-related Engineering Solutions
In addition to Brooten’s fuel system at the airport, Brooten city officials also hired the Bollig Engineering team for several other city projects, including developing a plan for the city industrial park between the railroad and the airport. With Bollig as Brooten’s engineer for both city infrastructure and the airport, Bollig was able design solutions to address the inter-related problems of Brooten’s intermodal projects. The City was able to be more efficient with funds, time, and resources.
